FIRST LEGO League Robotics

Ages 9–14

Lego League at Challenger Center of Kentucky Every year teams from around the region travel to the Challenger Learning Center of Kentucky to take part in the FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifier. These teams have spent several months learning and creating in order to be ready to compete. Each team is composed of 2-10 team members who are age 9-14. They are bringing with them custom built NXT and EV3 Robots which will be used on a LEGO League gaming table to attempt a variety of challenges and missions. They have also spent months working on a research project which will be unveiled and judged at the qualifier. Their professional and technical skills will be included in the final score in our Core Values and Robot Design judging sessions. Through their participation, students develop valuable life skills and discover exciting career possibilities while learning that they can make a positive contribution to society.

On December 15, 2012 the Challenger Learning Center of KY hosted the first annual Hazard, KY FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifying Tournament for ages 9 – 14. There were approximately 250 – 300 participants and visitors at this event. The challenge for 2012/2013 was Senior Solutions. Fourteen teams from around Eastern Kentucky competed in the tournament and four teams advanced to the State Competition in Bowling Green, KY on February 2, 2013.

Now, our FLL regional tournament is an annual event with students competing from across Kentucky.
